Graphic design has been a great artistic outlet for me. I have struggled with ADHD my whole life, but with design I find flow. Design is about beauty and psychology. When you get into the drivers behind what makes a good design, it is really quite captivating.
When I learned to build websites, it was still a very code-heavy process. These days I make use of ChatGPT and the in-built AI tools in the API platforms to help me to do more complex development. While what I want to do gets more complex, the tools to do those things make them easier so I’ve been able to maintain a basic level of coding and still greatly expand my ability to develop.
Transitioning into video editing has been quite the experience. It is like graphic design on steroids, with sound and music. Watch this space.
What I’ve learned from running my own business is that it’s not about trying to focus on everything, but instead understanding priorities and being laser focused on what’s important – not just for myself but for the whole team. Since we work across time zones, digital delegation tools are essential for communication, but they have the added bonus of ensuring alignment with priorities when used properly.
I’m not weird. I’m limited edition.
An alumna of Northern Illinois University, I studied Design and Visual Communications. My mom is an artist. She studied Fine Arts at the Academy of Art Barcelona. Art and Design, for me, is like carrying on the family business. My mom takes art seriously, so I never thought of it as a hobby. In today’s attention economy, understanding design is essential for small businesses, so more than ever I appreciate my mom passing along her eye for design.
